Cookie Policy

Effective Date: September 8, 2026 • Version 2.3

1. Scope & Architectural Philosophy

This Cookie Policy explains how Detune utilizes cookies and browser local storage technologies across our web applications and music discovery platform.

Our platform architecture is designed with privacy as a foundational principle. Detune operates completely free from commercial advertising networks, cross-site profiling trackers, behavioral pixel beacons, and third-party data broker integrations. We store and access data on your device solely to authenticate your session, remember your playback preferences, maintain uninterrupted music streaming, and diagnose technical issues.

This document complies with the European Union ePrivacy Directive (Directive 2002/58/EC as amended by Directive 2009/136/EC), Article 5(3) of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA).

2. Technical Taxonomy: Cookies & HTML5 Storage

To deliver an instant, latency-free audio discovery platform, Detune utilizes modern web storage technologies alongside traditional HTTP cookies:

HTTP Cookies Small text strings placed on your browser by web servers. Cookies are automatically transmitted in HTTP request headers with subsequent server calls. Detune uses HTTP cookies exclusively where required for cryptographic session maintenance and third-party payment gateway security.
HTML5 Local Storage (localStorage) A persistent browser-based storage mechanism allowing web applications to store key-value data directly on your device with no expiration date. Unlike cookies, data in Local Storage is never transmitted over the wire with static asset requests, preserving bandwidth and dramatically accelerating rendering speeds.
HTML5 Session Storage (sessionStorage) An ephemeral storage partition strictly limited to the duration of your active browser tab. When you close the browser tab or window, all session storage data is automatically purged by your operating system.

3. Storage Classification & Purpose

Below is the complete overview of client storage utilized across Detune, categorized by operational necessity and legal classification:

A. Strictly Necessary Storage (Consent-Exempt)

These items are technically indispensable for the basic operation of the Service. Under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, strictly necessary storage is legally exempt from user consent requirements because the platform cannot provide requested services without them:

Authentication Session Token: Secure cryptographically signed session token verifying your authenticated status across pages without re-transmitting credentials. Storage: Local Storage • Lifespan: Persistent until explicit sign-out

User Profile Cache: Cached profile metadata (username, email, subscription tier) ensuring instant page transitions and eliminating redundant server queries. Storage: Local Storage • Lifespan: Persistent until explicit sign-out

Cookie Consent Record: Saves your selected privacy preferences so you are not repeatedly prompted with consent banners on future visits. Storage: Local Storage • Lifespan: 365 calendar days

Active Session Anti-Repetition Cache: Temporary in-session track history that prevents the recommendation engine from replaying tracks you just auditioned during your visit. Storage: Session Storage • Lifespan: Current browser tab session only

Payment & Anti-Fraud Protection: Security tokens deployed securely by Stripe during subscription checkout to satisfy PCI-DSS merchant security and fraud-prevention standards. Storage: Secure HTTP Cookie • Lifespan: 1 year / 30 minutes

B. Functional & Audio Customization Storage

These storage entries remember your personalized audio environment and visual settings entirely within your client browser:

Audio Player Preferences: Stores volume slider levels, audio mute status, and preview repeat mode locally on your machine.

Curation Workspace Memory: Preserves recent textual vibe prompts and seed artist selections within Playlist Maker for rapid recall.

Visualizer Interface State: Caches dynamic frequency visualizer configurations and layout toggles.

C. Diagnostics & Telemetry (Strictly Opt-In)

We capture anonymous client performance metrics only if you affirmatively enable the Diagnostics toggle in the Cookie Settings panel:

Diagnostic Health & Error Monitoring: Remembers your consent choice for anonymous performance telemetry. When enabled, records client-side API response times, stream dropout rates, and connection retries to help us identify and fix audio playback issues. Storage: Local Storage • Lifespan: Persistent until toggled off

Diagnostics data is strictly non-personally identifiable, never tracks activity outside Detune, and is never shared with third parties or advertising brokers.

D. Third-Party Media Endpoints & Content CDNs

To stream licensed 30-second audio previews and display high-resolution album cover art, your browser communicates with media content delivery networks (CDNs) provided by music catalog partners (such as Deezer). These external endpoints utilize standard HTTP caching headers to optimize bandwidth and playback smoothness.

4. Storage Overview Summary

Function Type Classification Lifespan
Authentication Session Local Storage Strictly Necessary Until Sign-out
User Profile Cache Local Storage Strictly Necessary Until Sign-out
Cookie & Privacy Consent Local Storage Strictly Necessary 365 Days
Track Repetition Buffer Session Storage Strictly Necessary Active Session
Payment & Fraud Shield Secure HTTP Cookie Strictly Necessary (Stripe) 1 Year / 30 Min
Diagnostics & Health Metrics Local Storage Optional (Opt-In) Until Toggled Off

5. Managing & Revoking Cookie Preferences

You have total control over how storage and cookies are utilized on your device:

A. In-App Cookie Settings Panel You can adjust your preferences at any moment by clicking Cookie Preferences in the footer of any Detune page. This opens our interactive settings panel where you can toggle diagnostics or reject optional storage with immediate effect.
B. Browser-Level Controls All modern web browsers allow you to view, manage, and delete stored cookies and local storage data. If you block strictly necessary cookies, features requiring authentication and subscription verification will become inoperative. Refer to official browser documentation:
• Google Chrome • Apple Safari • Mozilla Firefox • Microsoft Edge • Brave Browser
C. Global Privacy Control (GPC) & Do Not Track (DNT) Detune respects browser-level privacy signals. Because Detune never sells, monetizes, or shares personal data for behavioral advertising, our platform operates inherently in full alignment with Global Privacy Control (GPC) requirements by default.
